Seasons and Weather is a smaller major Minecraft Update released on December 20, 2024. It is the first update to add seasons and new weather patterns, and the first minor update since 1.15- Buzzy Bees. It adds a season system to Minecraft, some new weather patterns, exclusive mobs to different weather, temperature, and Windriders. It is the last update before 2.0.

Blocks[]

Orange Autumn Leaves

  • Similar to Oak Leaves
  • Is an autumn orange color
  • Has a chance to drop Orange Autumn Saplings
  • Found on Orange Autumn Trees

Orange Autumn Sapling

  • Can grow into an Orange Autumn Tree

Cooling Coil

  • Used to cool down an area around it to normal temperature
  • Must be activated with Redstone circuitry
  • Crafted with 1 Redstone Dust, 4 Copper Ingot, and 4 Packed Ice

Heating Coil

  • Used to heat up a 10x10 area around it to normal temperature
  • Must be activated with Redstone circuitry
  • Crafted with 1 Redstone Dust, 4 Copper Ingot, and 4 Blaze Rods

Windrider Egg

  • Similar to Turtle Egg and Penguin Egg
  • Created when Windriders breed
  • Can not be on the same block as other Windrider Eggs
  • Takes 10 days to hatch
  • Cannot be picked up with Silk Touch

Charged Lightning Rod

  • Obtained by capturing a Stormy in a Lightning Rod
  • Rarely strikes nearby mobs with Lightning
    • Can charge Creepers
  • Does not cause nearby blocks to be set of Fire

Thermometer

  • Displays the ingame temperature of the biome the player is in
  • The red meter goes up or down depending on how close the biome is to giving Hyperthermia or Hypothermia
  • Works while in an Item Frame
  • Crafted with 2 Redstone Dust and 5 Copper Ingot

Calendar

  • Displays the ingame season with a painting-like image of a Forest during the season
  • Works similar to Map
  • Crafted with 1 Thermometer and 8 Paper

Windrider Bone

  • Can be crafted into 9 Bones
  • Will have more uses in future updates

Potion of Heat Resistance

  • Brewed from Awkward Potion
  • Brewed with Fire Shard
  • Has a duration of (3:00) at Level 1 and (8:00) at Level 2

Potion of Cold Resistance

  • Brewed from Awkward Potion
  • Brewed with Ice Shard
  • Has a duration of (3:00) at Level 1 and (8:00) at Level 2

Mobs[]

Raincoat Zombie

  • A Zombie dressed for the rain
  • Has 20 Health Points
  • Hostile Mob
  • Drops 0-2 Rotten Flesh, Rain Hat (Rare), and Rain Coat (Rare)
  • Deals 3 Melee Damage
  • Has a Baby variant
  • Spawns during Rain at Night and Thunderstorm

Umbrella Slime

  • A Blue Slime well-equipped for the rain
  • Has 24 (Big), 5 (Medium), and 2 (Small) Health Points
  • Hostile Mob
  • Drops 0-2 Blue Slimeballs (Small) and Umbrella (Rare)
  • Deals 6 (Big), 4 (Medium), and 2 (Small) Melee Damage
  • Spawns as a Large Slime, then splits into 4 Medium Slime, which split into 4 Small Slime
  • Has a large Umbrella over its head
  • Spawns in Forest, Woodland, Swamp, and Bog during Rain or Thunderstorm

Balloon Slime

  • A curious Green Slime holding a Balloon
  • Has 16 (Big), 4 (Medium), and 1 (Small) Health Points
  • Hostile Mob
  • Drops 0-2 Green Slimeballs, 1 Rope, and 1 Balloon
  • Deals 3 (Big) and 2 (Medium) Melee Damage
  • Spawns as a Large Slime, then splits into 4 Medium Slime, which split into 4 Small Slime
  • Has a Balloon over its head
  • Spawns in Forest, Woodland, Orchard, Plains, Swamp, and Bog during Wind

Windrider

  • A cloud-white draconic creature found in the highest peaks
  • Around twice the size of a Phantom
  • Has 100 Health Points
  • Hostile Mob
  • Flying Mob
  • Can hold food of an mob it killed
  • Drops 0-2 Windrider Bone
  • Drops Held Item
  • Deals 9 Melee Damage
  • Can be tamed by riding it a few times (similar to Horses)
    • Takes twice as long to tame a Horses
  • Can be ridden with a Saddle
    • When riding can fly around slower than an Elytra, but will not have to stop mid-ride
      • During Wind will fly twice as fast
  • Can store a Chest (similar to Donkeys)
  • Has a Baby variant
  • Hunts down Chickens, Cows, Pigs, Rabbits, Sheep, Apple Cows, Goats, Ostriches, Ducks, and Squirrels
  • Their nests can be found in Lofty Peaks in Mountains
    • Sleep in nests at night
  • Will breed with another Windrider if they both have food and a re in Windrider Nests
    • Lays a Windrider Egg in their nest after breeding
  • Will guard Windrider Eggs if mobs or players are nearby
  • During the day will venture out of their nests and hunt for the nearest huntable mob
    • Can not leave Mountain unless it is during Wind
  • Can be seen outside of Mountains during Wind

Stormy

  • A lightning elemental born from lightning strikes
  • Has 30 Health Points
  • Hostile Mob
  • Deals 5-10 Ranged Damage + Fire
  • Drops nothing
  • Can be captured inside of a Lightning Rod to create a Charged Lightning Rod
    • Kills the mob form
  • Spawns during Thunderstorm


Biomes[]

Seasonal Forest

  • Is a perpetually Autumn biome composed with a mixture of red and yellow foliages
  • Contain Oak, Maple, Yellow Autumn, and Orange Autumn Trees
  • Grass is yellow-ish
  • Leaves have an orange-ish tint
  • Chickens, Cows, Pigs, Sheep, Foxes, Apple Cows, Ducks, Owls, and Squirrels spawn in this biome
  • Has Grass, Wheat Grass, Dandelions, Poppies, Toadstools, Leaf Piles, and Flax as vegetation
  • Has Grass Block as surface block
  • Is always Autumn
  • Precipitation: Rain
  • Temperature: 0.4
  • Rarity: 7/10

Trees[]

Orange Autumn Tree

  • A short Oak-like tree with different coloration
  • Has Dark Oak Logs
  • Has Orange Autumn Leaves


Terrain Generation[]

Windrider Nests

  • Where Windriders live
  • A small cave-like pocket found high up in the mountains
  • Made primarily out of Stone, Slate, Moss Block, and Moss Carpet
  • Has Vines and Moss growing from the top
  • Found in Lofty Peaks in Mountains


Gameplay[]

Temperature[]

  • Certain biomes, seasons, and other factors will cause for the player to get too hot or cold
  • Does not work on Peaceful and Easy
  • Can be toggled off in world settings
    • Hyperthermia
      • Being too hot
        • Triggered by being in a Desert, Savanna, Badlands, Shrubland, or Volcano for more than 5 minutes during the day
          • Sprinting or wearing Netherite or Wither Bone Armor decreases the time needed by 1 minute each respectively
        • Triggered by being near hot source blocks for more than 5 minutes
          • Includes any types of Campfires, Furnaces, Lava, Magma Blocks, or Fire
          • Sprinting or wearing Netherite or Wither Bone Armor decreases the time needed by 1 minute each respectively
        • Stopped by being in Water, or being in a Snowy Tundra, Ice Spikes, or Snowy Taiga for 1 minute
        • Deals 1 damage every 3 seconds
    • Hypothermia
      • Being too cold
        • Triggered by being in a Snowy Tundra, Ice Spikes, Snowy Taiga, or in a snowy part of a Mountain for more than 5 minutes
          • Being in water or wearing Leather and/or not a full set decreases time needed by 1 minute each respectively
        • Stopped by being in a Desert, Savanna, Badlands, Shrubland, or Volcano, or near hot source blocks for 1 minute
          • Includes any types of Campfires, Furnaces, Lava, Magma Blocks, or Fire
        • Deals 1 damage every 3 seconds

Temperature Icon

  • Small gray circle next to hunger bar
    • Goes red with a fire icon when player is about to have or has hyperthermia
    • Goes blue with an ice icon when player is about to have or has hypothermia

Seasons[]

  • Changes temperature, crop growth time, and foliage color in a 100 day cycle
  • Each of the four seasons have a Early, Mid, and Late sub-season
  • Tropical biomes (Jungle, Desert, etc.) have a different two-season cycle
    • Temperate Seasons
      • Spring
        • 1st season of the year in temperate biomes
        • Grass, leaves, and vegetation transition to a blue-ish green color
        • Biomes start to warm up from Winter
        • Snow melts throughout the season
        • Precipitation is more frequent
      • Summer
        • 2nd season of the year in temperate biomes
        • Grass, leaves, and vegetation transition to a yellow-ish green tint
        • Temperature is around the same as it was pre-1.29
        • Thunderstorms are more frequent
      • Autumn
        • 3rd season of the year in temperate biomes
        • Grass transitions to a yellow-ish color, while leaves and vegetation get an orange-ish tint
        • Biomes start to cool down for Winter near the end
        • Precipitation is average
      • Winter
        • 4th season of the year in temperate biomes
        • Grass, leaves, and vegetation fade in color
        • Biome temperatures drop, allowing for biomes that don't normally get snow to snow
        • Precipitation is more frequent
    • Tropical Season
      • Wet Season
        • 1st season of the year in tropical biomes
        • Starts at the beginning of winter and ends at the beginning of summer
        • Grass, leaves, and vegetation transition to lush green
        • Biome temperatures drop, allowing for rain in biomes that normally don't get rain
        • Precipitation is more frequent
      • Dry Season
        • 2nd season of the year in tropical biomes
        • Starts at the beginning of summer and ends at the beginning of winter
        • Grass, leaves, and vegetation transition to a yellow-ish color
        • Biome temperatures rise, stopping rain in biomes that would normally get it
        • No precipitation

Weather[]

  • Added new types of weather
    • Wind
      • Gusts of wind travel through the sky with a wide range of intensity
      • Will push players and most mobs in the direction the wind is going
        • Will not always be strong enough to push, but can push up to 1/3 of a block a second
      • Makes Elytra and Royal Elytra go faster (depending on the wind speed)
      • Is stronger high up in Mountains
      • Occurs in all overworld biomes uncommonly
    • Mist
      • Masks the landscape with thick fog,
      • Makes player vision range just a bit further than vision with Blindness
      • Is stronger in Whispering Woods
      • Occurs in temperate overworld biomes rarely and in Whispering Woods constantly
    • Sandstorm
      • Gusts of wind push sand across the landscape
      • Will push players and most mobs in the direction the wind is going
        • Will not always be strong enough to push, but can push up to 1/4 of a block a second
      • Makes player vision range just a bit further than vision with Mist
      • Makes Tumbleweeds more common and travel faster
      • Occurs in Deserts and Badlands uncommonly
    • Flood
      • Waves flood the Beaches and the sea level temporarily rises
      • Sea level rises 1-5 blocks nearby the Beach experiencing the flood
      • Mobs that spawn in the adjacent ocean type will spawn in the flooded area temporarily
      • Occurs in Beaches and Beach Dunes rarely

  • Baby Zombies can ride Cows, Ocelots, untamed Cats, untamed Wolves, Pigs, Pandas, Sheep, Horses, Donkeys, Mules, Goats, Zombie Horses, Skeleton Horses, Spiders, Cave Spiders, adult Zombies, adult Zombie Villagers, and adult Husks in all versions
  • Baby Zombies can no longer ride Mooshrooms
  • Baby Zombies can now ride Apple Cows, Ostriches, Camels, Bison, Mooblooms, Ducks, Mummies, and Jungle Zombies
