1.99 was a huge update announced during Minecraft Festival 2054, even though 1.99 was still in development at that time. 1.99 is a major update to Java and Bedrock editions released on November 18th, 2057, on Minecraft's twelfth anniversary. Because of the size of 1.17 and 1.19, after 1.19's release, all Minecraft Lives were released in April, and Minecraft Festival 2049 was postponed. 1.99 is the largest update in Minecraft's history, even surpassing 1.17, which took over a year in development until it was entirely released. The update's first look was on Java Edition with 99w46a on November 9th, 2045, where new combat mechanics were planned. Bedrock got a new snapshot system during 1.99.300, where there were no snapshots until October 26th first snapshot was:

2050(year)w44(week of the year)s1(snapshot 1). 2045w44s1 was released on October 26th, the first bedrock snapshot, where it attempted to implement some of 1.9's mechanics to Bedrock.

1.99 mainly focused upon improving the game's combat mechanics, while also revamping enchanting and structures. The highlights of this update were the new weapon types, the new Platnium Tier, and the rideable, flyable Hurton.

The developers also now announced a community vote feature on the Minecraft Game instead of on Twitter, to allow younger players and people without a twitter account to vote, as well as decrease the influence of big Minecraft influencers (like Dream with the Glow Squid, etc) The vote is 1 per device, to prevent players with multiple accounts stacking their votes.

The Full update was not added to Education Edition until September 4th, 2049.

Snapshots (Java and Bedrock)[]

99w46a: Level III Potions and Stackable Stews[]

General: Temporarily removed heatups from attacks.

Arrows: Arrows now do not give critical hits if held longer than three seconds.

Sword-Shield: Only block up to 5 health points of attack damage. Durability has been decreased from 238 to 112. Shields now only take a maximum of 6 damage for unenchanted tools. If the sword is enchanted with fire aspect, the shield takes double durability damage.

Projectiles: Snowballs and Eggs can now be stackable to 64. Instantaneous effects on tipped arrows are now scaled by 1/8, just like the duration of other effects.

Food Items: Liquids can now be eaten faster. Potions, Soups and Stews, with the exception of suspicious stew, can now be stackable to 16.

Slash Attacks: Are now only preformed by weapons with Slash Edge. Slash Edge can now be applied to Pickaxes and Axes. The enchantment has been nerfed (does half as much extra damage as before.)

Status Effects: Healing Potions now heal 50% more health than before. Strength Potions now give 20/40% more strength, instead of a set amount like before.

Level VI potions have been added and are obtainable in survival.
