Drillers are hostile mobs that dig underground. Despite their small size, only being one block in length and much less in width and height, they can pursue players through solid blocks and deal plenty of damage with their drills.

Drillers are small, yellow, cylindrical creatures with two little legs on either side, and a grey drill adorning their face. They have eight health (HeartHeartHeartHeart) and deal six damage (HeartHeartHeart) per hit. Drillers can tunnel underground to get at the player. Drillers move most quickly in coarse dirt, and slower through blocks like stone and granite. Drillers cannot dig through material blocks (iron blocks, diamond blocks, etc.) or obsidian, and they cannot swim properly, meaning they'll most likely die if they tunnel into water.

A driller moving underground can be spotted by particles and a shadow on the block they are tunneling through, as long as they're only one block deep. If it's 2+ blocks deep, the only way to detect the mob is to listen for its distinct noises.

Due to their small size and fragile health, drillers do not like to fight in the open; Instead, drillers tunnel below the player and pop up to damage them before submerging again. If they are unearthed by the destruction of a block they're hiding in and a player is within 6 blocks of them, they'll finally fight head-on. If the player backs off 7+ blocks away, the driller will dig back into the ground and try again.

Drillers spawn primarily in caves, but they can spawn elsewhere in any overworld biome that meets the following conditions:

  • Dry (IE: Not a swamp)
  • Not a snowy biome (IE: Not a tundra)
  • Ground is composed of primarily either stone, coarse dirt, gravel, or grass (IE: not a desert or mesa)
