The elephant is a passive mob found in the Badlands and Deserts that can be ridden by a singular player with a Wandering Trader's Chair, or in a baby elephant's case, a saddle.

Spawning[]

An Elephant will spawn alongside a Wandering Trader while with-holding a Wandering Trader's Chair and the chests inside of it. The otherwise spawn in herds of 4 in the Badlands and Desert.

Drops[]

Upon death, elephants drop:

  • Experience Orb Value 3-6 2-6 experience orbs when killed by a player or tamed wolf.
  • Wandering Trader's Chair if the elephant was already equipped with one.
  • 2 Chests if the elephant was already equipped with one.
  • 2 tusks.

Upon successful breeding, 2–9 Experience Orb Value 3-6 is dropped.

Killing a baby elephant yields neither items nor experience.

Behavior[]

In herds, there are 4 members max; three adults and one baby. The three adults will protect the baby from hostile mobs and the player by blocking their way. They travel to the nearest water and grass sources, and avoid any obstacles along with it. After getting harmed, the whole herd will flee.

While having a Wandering Trader as it's master, it will follow the Wandering Trader as well as hold it's chair and chests. When hostile mobs come near it, a Wandering trader will climb atop the chair in defense, and the elephant will protect the trader llamas.

Riding[]

Elephants can be ridden with a Wandering Trader's Chair. The chair can be placed and removed, and chests can be connected to it, which could be useful to the player. By using cocoa beans, you can tame an elephant and then control it while riding it. Only one player, or mob, can ride in the chair at a time, which includes riding on an elephant. Elephants can't run, but by taking damage, they can move 2 times as fast for 20 seconds, and will even bump mobs out of the way, which may accidentally let them take 1/2 (Heart) of damage.

Baby Elephants can be ridden with saddles, but they need to be tamed first. Unlike the bigger elephants, the babies can not sprint when taking damage, and cannot heal on their own, and need the assistance of a player. When killed, the player will not get the saddle back, even if it was used on the baby elephant.

Breeding[]

The elephant follows a player while holding grass, watermelon or cocoa beans. Elephants need to be tamed before breeding, and they can be tamed with cocoa beans, and then bred with grass and watermelon. Adult elephants enter love mode and breed to create baby elephants after they are each given three servings of grass or watermelon. The parents have a cooldown of ten minutes before they can breed again.

Healing[]

Elephants are healed by 3 (Heart) each time they are fed grass, watermelon or cocoa seeds. Elephants also heal on their own over time.
