Java Edition 1.28: Mushroom Update

1.24, the first release of The Mushroom Update, is a major update to Java Edition released on September 12th, 2026. This update overhauls the Mushroom Fields biome by adding Cluckshrooms and Sporents, it also adds Mushroom Bricks, a new biome, and Short Mushrooms. This update includes the features for the 2022 Biome vote Mushroom Fields features, the Forest and Beach biomes were updated in 1.22 and 1.23 respectively.

Additions

Blocks

Jumpshroom

Sometimes generates in Mushroom Fields.
If an entity steps on one, they will get an effect.
Any entity that steps on one get launched five blocks in the air.
Has five different types, which are:
- Brown
  - Does not give an effect.
  - Has a brown cap.
- Decayed
  - Gives Levitation I (00:05).
  - Has a purple cap with white spots.
- Red
  - Gives Regeneration II (00:02).
  - Has a red cap with white spots.
- Toxic
  - Gives Poison I (00:04).
  - Has a green cap with white spots.
- Warped
  - Gives Warped II (00:03).
  - Has a blue cap with white spots.

Mushroom Bricks

A block crafted from 2 Mushroom Planks and 2 Clay.

Short Mushrooms

A block that generates in the Mushroom Fields and Mushroom Shores biomes.
Has two variants, brown and red.

Mobs

Cluckshroom

Originates from Minecraft Earth.
Lives in Mushroom Fields.
Was decided on based on a mob vote between it, the Melon Golem, and the Bone Spider, which are all from Minecraft Earth.

Sporent

A mob that spawns in the Mushroom Fields biome.
Has 10 hp.
Has five types, most types of Sporent give any player within a 5 block area an effect, the types of Sporents and their effect are:
- Brown Sporent
  - Does not give an effect.
  - Has a brown cap.
- Decayed Sporent
  - Gives Levitation I (00:05).
  - Has a purple cap with white spots.
- Red Sporent
  - Gives Regeneration II (00:02).
  - Has a red cap with white spots.
- Toxishroom Sporent
  - Gives Poison I (00:04).
  - Has a green cap with white spots.
- Warped Sporent
  - Gives Warped II (00:03).
  - Has a blue cap with white spots.
Takes more damage with Snipping, as it is considered a plant mob.

Mushroom chicken

,when killed gives a mushroom chicken egg and a chicken covered in mushroom.has 2hp

Mushroom axolotl

A axolotl with brown or red mushrooms on her back (based on the color of the axolotl) eats mushroom fishes (mushroom salmons and mushroom cods)has 9hp

Mushroom fishes

Mushroom salmon has some a red mushroom hat on her head,you can take salmon's hat off with shears,or kill it to obtain it.Has 4 hp

Mushroom cods are faster than normal cods,they have six brown mushrooms on their back, and if you touch them they will attack you.Has 12hp

Mushroom puffferfishes have a brown mushroom hat on their head and you can only take it off with shears,when you kill them they will throw nothing.they give poison (00:58).Has 7hp

New Biomes

Secret room

the Secret Room generates in the fifth or seventh mushrooom in the dark oak forest,in the room is amethyst crystals,a chorus plant,moss blocks,a fletching table, and three sculk sensors,there are two sporents trapped in it behind iron bars,in their cell there is just a barrel covered in cobwebs and two beds and one moss carpet.

Mushroom village

Mushroom villages have 8 sporents and 8 sporent houses that look like a mushroom,the houses are made of mushroom bricks and have a brown bed.they are located in a mushroom island near the sea,they have also mushroom plank fences where they put mushroom cows or chickens.
