  • I wish I knew of a better way to post this. Message wall it is.

Anyway, now that DinosaursRoar has been exposed as a massive content thief + plagiarist, and blocked accordingly, what is to be done with his pages? Should we continue sourcing the images and then leave them be, or should they be entirely removed from the wiki? Should all of DinosaursRoar's content be removed?

    • Hey Sad, this is Maj (I'll post proof so you know I'm not trying to pull a fast one on you lol), sorry for not getting back to you but I have lost access to my account. I have tried repeatedly to get it back over the past month but I have also been busy getting my HiSET so I've had other stuff going on. My password doesn't work so I reset the password several times and checked my emails and no recovery email was sent. I guess I'll have to get Nero to re-admin me?

The only solution here is the HailGodsOfWar treatment:

      Gregarman
DinosaursRoar's pages should just be deleted. I make one exception to this rule, his Megaman page, because I have good reason to believe the content from it isn't plagiarized and he actually made at least one of those skins, specifically the Gregarman (pictured). If he requests that we delete that page since it's his original content I would have no problem with doing so, but I don't think it needs to be deleted unless he wants it to be.

Casual readers won't really care about personal disputes we have with the guy and will be confused and mislead by content from real mods being hosted here, and from the "Popular Pages" section of the sidebar it doesn't seem like anything he made is really pulling in a ton of viewership to the Wiki anyways (all his pages are pretty much just him rattling off a lot of statistics and saying "canon" as much as possible).

DinosaursRoar has a DeviantArt account called dylan613. I don't think he directly links his wikia or DeviantArt accounts to eachother, but going back to that one original piece of art, the reason I say it's original, I was able to find the source of it (at least I think it's the source, the other pages seem to be from websites that bulk host images randomly and tagspam to get clicks, not something a legitimate content creator would upload to directly), which is this page: https://www.deviantart.com/dylan613/art/Minecraft-Mob-Ideas-Gregarman-486683972. Looking at this DeviantArt page, it's clear this guy really likes Dinosaurs, he has a lot of graphic designs he's made (hopefully a bit more honestly than the content he "made" here) featuring them. More importantly though, take a look at DinosaursRoar's contributions to the Parody Wiki:

It's very consistent with everything you'll see on his DeviantArt, he has an original character named after himself (represented by what I believe is a partial tracing of the character T.K. from the second season of Digimon, the faces of the two look very similar and his head looks strangely proportioned because TK wears a hat so Dino couldn't trace a normal head shape). Further solidifying this is this transgender fanfiction he wrote where his original character swaps genders and turns into the aforementioned Digimon character. I think he might also have gone on the Novum Terram wiki wrote an article about himself being a species of domesticated animal? He's got pictures up there if you want to look, he might delete them if he reads this though.

If he actually did make that design, then it's clear he has some level of talent - His articles tend to be fairly well-written from a grammar and formatting standpoint at least. I'm not sure why he felt the need to steal HUNDREDS of images from so many people and pedal them as his own on what can only be described as an industrial scale. If that one image is also stolen, I guess that makes him even worse?

Well this has turned into a long post at this point, anyways, here's the verification I'm actually Maj and not DinosaursRoar in disguise, unused screenshots that didn't make the cut for my story I Found Something Strange in my 1.6.4 World. The first two are pictures of sponges from the third chapter (you will find the first should be the EXACT image I used to crop the sponge for File:SpongeMob.png) and the second is the destroyed house from the fourth chapter.

      Temp2
      Temp3

If all of that still doesn't prove it to you, we can of course meet on Minecraft itself (I don't think we actually ever have come to think of it), and I can verify I'm Spinosaurus4 and thus Majoras revenge!!!

Any help getting Nero to re-adminize me would of course be appreciated.

  • Hi, it seems like you are making changes to my pages. That is fine, i love new additions, but i cant figure out what you are changing exactly

      Loading editor
    • Hey, you should be able to tell what the changes to any page are by adding ?action=history to the end of the URL and then clicking "prev" next to the most recent revision, which will show you the exact changes made in any given edit.

As for your pages specifically, I'm assuming you mean the two Update Aquatic additions and The Exploration Spectacular Update; For all three of those I added Template:Navbox Fan Made Updates, which we do at the end of all update articles.

  • Good Morning,

My apologies if this posted twice. I had to register an account to post a message, so this may be a repeat (I don't see my first attempt yet)...

I have a book forthcoming from Lexington in the fall that features a short section on born-digital folklore and the Herobrine phenomenon. I was wondering if this image was available for use under a creative commons license:

    http://minecraftfanon.wikia.com/wiki/File:FirstHerobrineSighting.png

I would like to reprint this screen capture in black and white in the print version and in color in the electronic version. Is it avialable under a CC-BY license, perhaps?

Thanks for your consideration and any insights you might have on permissions.

    Best regards, Daniel Powell

    • Good morning, mister Powell, thanks for the message. Unfortunately, we do not own the rights to this image, and as far as I know it is not officially under any Creative Commons License, we have been using it here under U.S. Code › Title 17 › Chapter 1 › § 107 which allows for the use of copyrighted material for teaching, scholarship, and research (among other purposes) under fair use.

It is probably important to keep in mind that the image uses art assets created by Mojang AB (now a subsidy of Microsoft Studios), which this site is not affiliated with. Here's what I could find on Mojang's licensing of assets and their stance towards use of screenshots such as this image commercially:

      From the Mojang brand guidelines

      • "You may also make money using videos and screen-shots if it is covered by so called "fair dealing" or "fair use" exceptions to copyright, such as where it is for criticism and review, reporting current affairs etc. In each case, you will still need to add appropriate additional content and credits where applicable."

From the Mojang Commercial Usage Guidelines:

      • "If you comply with and follow the Essential Requirements (in the Brand and Asset Usage Guidelines) and Naming Guidelines YOU MAY write and publish works inspired by Minecraft (“Publications”) so long as: [...]
        • you do not use official Minecraft artwork, such as images taken from official Minecraft product packaging, official Minecraft merchandise, or official Minecraft marketing, on the cover of your Publication. However, for example, you may use screenshots of your original Minecraft creations on the cover of your Publication, provided the overall cover of your Publication does not create the impression that it is an official Mojang publication or authorized by Mojang;"

I would certainly recommend reading both these pages thoroughly, and according to the brand guidelines page, you can contact Mojang on such matters at brands@mojang.com so you might consider doing so.

I hope at least some of that was helpful to you. Don't hesitate to contact me again if I can clarify or help with anything else regarding this matter.

  • What are the requirements for admin? ‘Cause I really want to work my way up to one.

      Loading editor
    • We don't have any set-in-stone requirements, we appoint admins whenever they are needed, we do have a rights request page, but with the exception of one person changing accounts, no one has successfully requested rights thusfar; Admins are chosen out of the userbase by Raniero R for being consistent and quality contributers.

We don't have any demand for admins currently, if we did, we would probably appoint DinosaursRoarTreadz2000, or Terrarian Pony as they all actively contribute to the site on a regular basis.

You could ask Raniero what his personal requirements are for picking admins, however he seems to be MIA currently.

  • Are you active? Because I take interest in writing here, this wikia sounds interesting.

    • I'm not sure if you were asking if the wikia or myself personally are active, but both are. I'm glad to hear you want to write here though, we're always looking for new contributers.

        Loading editor
    • Well yes I might think of some new stories to write here.

  • Do you think that you got unfairly banned without reason on Minecraft Creepypasta WIkia(Is mentioning other Wikias considered as rule breaking?),as it says that you are banned.

If you think so,as one of 6 admins I will unblock you there.

No one on Minecraft Creepypasta Wiki but Chicken has anything against this wiki whatsoever, if he posts outright "go vandalize minecraft fanon wiki" he will just be advertising for us more than doing us any harm (and if he does do that, we can just report him to wikia staff).
i have no intention of vandlizing this wiki in fact i came to say sorry for my actions and your ban i found the "is this what counts a a quality pasta on this wiki" to be insulting our wiki at the time [i have minor ange insuses"  maybe we can become friends any to make a long story sort i'm sorry and mysterious hood?  no worries i'm not who griefter and the trollpasta armies painted me out to be lol so major revenge dude do exept my apolopie?

Yeah no worries, apology accepted. I apologize as well if you thought I was demeaning your wiki.

  • I never thought I'd be suggesting this, considering the fact that much of the fun of this wiki comes from finding the cringe made by a nine-year-old in 2013, but correcting all the pages one certain user (ahem ahem) so they don't look like the memoirs of a man whose keyboard lacks shift and punctuation keys is getting kind of grating.

Just maybe a semblance of "Capitalize your stuff" and "Maybe use good grammar" would work.

    • I see what you're saying, and I agree with your proposal that these low quality pages be done away with, but what exactly is it you want me to do about it?
