Mimics are neutral mobs in Minecraft. They are monsters disguising as blocks such as chests.

Spawning[]

Mimics will only spawn upon world generation in multiple structures where chests are usually generated and have a 20% chance to replace them. This includes dungeons, abandoned mine shafts, strongholds, desert/jungle temples, Igloos, ancient cities and Woodland mansions.

Behavior[]

Mimics will disguise themselves by staying idle and completely motionless. If the player opens it by right-clicking or break it, they will turn hostile and will begin hopping towards the current location of the player aggressively much in a vein similar to Slimes or Magma Cubes, attempting to attack the player from a range by using their long tongues. If the Mimics doesn't manage to succeed at assaulting the player that provoked them or chasing after them for a moderate period of time, they will return to their original forms as disguised chests, leaving them vulnerable to be attacked by the player. If the mimic happens to be inside a radius of 40 blocks around its original location, it will return there.

If another mob accidentally damages the mimic in its camouflage pose, it will retaliate. If the mimic is fixated on a target, it won't be changing targets unless the target is dead or out of reach.

Withers and zoglins do not attack mimics in their motionless form.

Drops[]

Mimics typically drops 4-9 random loot upon being killed and has a 70% chance to drop Mimic Tongue, 20% chance to drop Mimic Organ, and 10% chance to drop Mimic Heart.

Mimics drop 6 experience points.
