Minecraft 1.18, the Scary Skeleton Update, was released in March 2022, and is primarily focused on skeletons, adding new mobs, biomes, and more to the game.

Mobs[]
Waterbugs are hostile mobs that spawn in oceans and in ravines with water. They are skeletons, so they burn up on land during the day, but can leave the waters at night, like drowned. They drop Waterbug Claws.
A Lava Glider is a neutral mob that spawns in the nether in lava lakes and seas. They can be tamed and bred with emeralds, but may attack you.
These are strays that spawn with Skeleton Horses and Skeletal Hoglins, and they will give you Skeleton Explorer Maps for emeralds.
Skeletal Hoglins spawn naturally with Stray Tradesmen, and will spawn when a Hoglin or Zoglin gets shot by a stray or skeleton. They are neutral mobs, and are bred with rotten flesh.
The Clad Skeleton is a boss mob that is found in Skeleton Temples, and is a powerful skeleton with enchanted netherite armor and a bow. It drops a Totem of Summoning.

- Skeleton Explorer Map
A Skeleton Explorer Map I is used to find a Skull Fortress, and is acquired by trading with a Stray Tradesman. A Skeleton Explorer Map II locates a Skeleton Temple. and is found in the main loot chest in a Skull Fortress. They are also acquired by giving a stray a map, having it lead you a bit, and then taking the map.
The Totem of Summoning is an item dropped by the Clad Skeleton, and is used to summon mobs.
The Altar of Summoning is used with a Totem of Summoning to summon mobs. It is crafted with a diamond block in the middle, waterbug claws in the corners, and the rest obsidian.
- Lava Rock
Lava Rocks are dropped by Red Basalt if you don't have a silk touch pickaxe, and are used as a weapon and to make Red Basalt. They do 3-6 damage if thrown at a mob, and do 4-5 damage if they hit you during a volcanic eruption.
Shurikens are weapon used by throwing them at mobs. Iron ones are crafted with an iron nugget in the middle and the corners, and the rest Waterbug Claws. Gold Shurikens are crafted with gold nuggets, and diamond ones with diamond. There are no Netherite Shurikens.

Structures[]
Skull Fortresses are generated structures that spawn with many types of skeletons, and with loot chests, including one with the materials to make an Altar of Summoning and a Skeleton Explorer Map II.
Skeleton Temples are pyramid-like structures built with bone blocks and birch logs. In the main chamber there is the Clad Skeleton and a loot chest.
Like a Skeleton Temple but with no clad skeleton, and instead of the loot chest there is an Altar of Summoning.

- Skeleton Master II-Kill 10 of every type of skeleton.
- Gliders and Striders-Ride a glider and a strider.
- The Skeleton Trap-Bring a Lava Glider to the Overworld, bring a Waterbug to the Nether, and kill them both.
