Meanwhile, on the other side of the border...
Travis taking his daily evening walk. It helped him ease his frustrations, whether that was Zombies invading his house, getting himself to almost drown, or simply just dropping his quilts each and every two seconds.
He said hi to a friendly neighbor, and that was when, like Marty, saw a Shard coming at him. He just saw a flick of unnatural red light, and Travis immediately ran back to his house.
He somehow made it back, but it was still aiming at him. Travis had barely even begun to close the front door when the Shard struck him. He jumped up in shock, and bonked his head on the wall and became unconscious.
Travis woke up. His head hurt. Looking down, he saw a small puddle of blood, which made him look at his shoulder. To his surprise, it was... Burning. Literally.
