The Sapper Zombie is a hostile mob that only spawns during mob sieges. It is similar to a normal zombie in appearance, but has a gray shirt and always has a hard hat or mining helmet equipped. It carries an iron shovel, iron pickaxe, or iron axe and a spruce trapdoor.
The sapper zombie can not only break down wooden doors, like a normal zombie, but can also break through almost any solid block given enough time. It prefers to target glass panes, doors of any variety, trapdoors, and fence gates.
The sapper zombie can not only break blocks, but also place them - it will place trapdoors to create a bridge over moats and other gaps blocking its path. The sapper zombie can also place special ladders to climb up to higher places. These trapdoors and ladders are abnormal, and the player cannot open the trapdoors until they're broken and replaced - the ladders can be climbed as normal, but if one is mined, all the ones it is connected to will break, destroying the entire ladder.
Like other undead mobs, the sapper zombie is not targeted by the Wither, and it's harmed by healing potions while being healed by harming potions.
Utility golems, such as the snow golem, coal golem, and iron golem are hostile to the sapper zombie. Witches, on the other hand, will attempt to heal the sapper zombie if its nearby (using potions of harming, which have an inverse effect) and will throw positive buff potions onto it as well.
Like a normal zombie, the sapper zombie technically burns in the daylight, however, it always spawns wearing a piece of armor, and is thus de facto immune to its damage. The sapper zombie can also infect villagers.
The sapper zombie can be spawned using console commands, but lacks a spawn egg. If spawned in the overworld, it has a very large detection radius, and will still use its abilities to track down the player, much like it would to besiege the player's home during a mob siege.
In mob sieges in ocean biomes, sapper zombies are replaced by Drowned Sappers.
Breeds[]
Like rabbits, sapper zombies have breeds. Different breeds show up to different mob sieges, depending on the biome.
