The Taproot is an odd little enemy found exclusively in caves beneath villages, as well as a corresponding food item sharing the same name. The creature has a model very similar to a silverfish, but backwards, with a brown-tan texture and missing one segment. Taproots inch their way along towards the player and attack, dealing 1 or 2 damage depending on difficulty.
When not near the player, taproots are sluggish and do not move around much. Like bats, they will sometimes cling to the surface of a block to rest. The taproot's most notable behavior, however, is its ability to climb on walls and even ceilings as if they were floors. Originally added to test advanced climbing, the taproot can inch its way up cliff faces and even scurry around upside-down on the roofs of caves. Much more advanced in their climbing abilities than spiders, taproots cannot be stopped from ascending by overhangs or ledges.
Once a taproot mob is killed, a taproot food item can be looted from it. The taproot restores 6 hunger and had a 34% chance of curing any poison effect, but can potentially inflict Nausea on the player for 5 seconds.
